So, what did you all think?

I see a pattern developing here that I saw last season. The episodes are far more cerebral and touching on issues relevant to the psychology of the characters, rather than on character interaction and big explosions.

I liked the episode, but I foresee a lot of complaints from fans because of this approach. But, oh well...it's the last season.

Actually I'll just wait a month or two until it gets interesting. I'll catch the torrents for when I travel to Greece in August. 12 hours of flying will require a lot of MPGs.

This thing is pure garbage. I wonder if the current writers could watch either the mini-series, or the first season, without wanting to quit in shame. These people really suck. The show has become trivial and predictable outside of the completely nonsensical nonsequiters. Leobin showing up telling Kara/Starbuck that he wants her to achieve her destiny, like he always did. He was fucking the crap out of her to knock her up... give me a break. Stoopid... trivial... nonsensical.

  • What's really bothering me about BG is that I can predict what's going to happen! That's bad!

If a show becomes predictable, then new writers are needed. But if the chief writer is also the producer and in charge of overall production, then the thing becomes a house of cards. Maybe this is why RDM decided to do only four seasons--he knew that it was all starting to unravel.

Road Less Traveled was more of the same: More transition, more angst, more Baltar standing in the pulpit, more of Tori embracing the Cylon line (though she's mostly unaware of doing it), more of Tyrol trying to convince himself that he's a good man, more of Tigh struggling for meaning, and more of Starbuck trying to solidify a dream. Pitiful.

The only bright spot was the scenes from next week's episode showing Kara on the baseship getting a bad omen from the hybrid oracle.
    • *This reminds me of how some people were bitching about the Sopranos last season and final episode.

As far as I'm concerned, the show is ending - the Ronald D Moore and the rest of the writers already have a plan on how it's ending. I'm no longer looking for "brilliant" writings (even tho I enjoyed this eps as well)...I just want the the story of Galactica to be done with.
    • > What's really bothering me about BG is that I can predict what's going to happen! That's bad!

Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. It's good to have unanticipated plot twists, but at the same time, you want to make sure that any plot development leads directly from the premise and from prior actions. Yes, we knew that Number 2 was going to seek Kara out again. We also knew that Kara would make for a lousy CO.
      • It certainly would have been a much more entertaining show if it was a singleton that explored a new character doing something, or a cylon doing something outside of their ship,, etc. The entire show was just more character development like a soap opera..
It's supposed to be Sci Fi,, and that means exploring the unkown,, doing something different,, special effects.. you know,, the reason we all got into it in the first place..
This is so often what happens when a restaurant gets succesful,, the food portions get smaller, the stock loses whatever made it unique, and the service gets less attentive.. Seems inevitable.
Sure good acting and character development is a really nice thing.. but with a constantly changing plot and special effects are a must in great sci fi..
        I give this episode a "D"..
pretty close to a complete failure. You could skip this episode completely and never a miss a thing.
  • Kara's crew sucked. If I was assigned to a fools' mission lead by a crazy woman, I wouldn't complain that she's acting crazy. I would go along for the ride, even if I had to distribute paints and peyote buttons. I wouldn't worry about her getting us all killed either. I mean, is that any way for military personal on a quasi-religious quest to act?
  • I'm getting a little aggravated. The producers/writers do NOT have a lot of time to be dragging their feet....unless they were going to add more episodes than usual this year and have a longer-than-normal season. But to my understanding, there are only going to be roughly 22 episodes or something around that number, and few important events have happened. I understand using a few episodes to setup the stories, but I feel like some of the episodes have been pointless. The episode with Cally getting thrown out the airlock was good because (a) I didn't expect Cally to actually commit suicide or for Tory to actually kill her and (b) it opened the door for Tory exploring her Cylon identity, but other than that (and the first episode) I don't think anything REALLY BIG has happened. I kind of had the idea that this was supposed to be the 'season of seasons' and so far I've been pretty bored. I like the psychological thing, but there has to be a faster pace going...if everything just explodes in the last few episodes, that would be really disappointing for me. Plus, I'm also bummed out by the whole Baltar thing....I really miss the comic relief of the "Head Six" and am disappointed that he's not going to get to be with Caprica Six; I kind of wanted them together. His abandonment of science kind of bums me out and, while I like that his character is developping, I miss the sexual tension and comic relief that the "Head Six" brought to the table. I'm also irritated that the set-ups really haven't brought much; for example, all of the trouble that Roslin is getting into w/the other politicians hasn't brought a coup or an assassination attempt or ANYTHING. I am very much interested in the Cylon 'civil war', but it seems like there isn't enough attention being given to that; it's all about Starbuck. I also see her character as being kind of weak this season. Plus, the mutiny thing was pretty much BORING. For one thing, it was obvious that it would happen. For another, it wasn't really made into an explosive scene. It went flat, in my view. It could have been done in a more explosive way. I'll keep watching but I hope to see more of BOTH a psychological development of characters, a little more actual important events happening, and admittedly I'd like to see some of my favorite pairings work out.
    • Jeeze.... what a bunch of whiners! Do any of you remember why you watch this show? Sure, some weeks are slow. Some weeks are soap-opera-y. Some weeks lack brilliant new special effects. Not every episode is going to stand out as the "best show ever" week after week after week. So what?

Good stuff is coming. You know it. I know it. That's why we watch this show. Whatever shortfalls you find in any given episode, in the end, BSG is still going to be remembered as one of the best written, best acted and best special effects we've ever seen. And we are going to grieve for it when it's gone because even the slow, soap-opera-y, no special effects episodes are better than watching no new episodes at all.
      • Give me a break... do you remember why...
What sort of b.s. is that?
The special effects are irrelevant and at some time, in a far distant galaxy, the writing was actually credible.

        This show blows goats.
        • "This show blows goats."

Then why the fuck are you watching it and why the fuck are you here.

          oh, I get it..."0" friends = TROLL
          • well, i'm not a troll and, sorry, but right now the show does blow goats... and it sucks ass... and worst of all, it's just damned boring... every time baltar came on screen, i picked up my iphone and started surfing the net...

and why do i keep watching... because i remember the end of the first episode when boomer shot adama... season two when starbuck screamed 'that bitch stole my ride"... season three when the galactica jumped into atmosphere, the pegasus rammed the basestars and tigh had his eye ripped out... and i keep waiting for the writers to pull their heads out of their asses long enough to remember how to be that great again...
          • 0 friends = troll??? Are you serious?

I'm calling it out so people like you, who're complacent, or missing critical thinking skills, are not the only voice and thus create an environment where bullshit is indistinguishable from camembert.
        • God forgives the meandering story arcs, plot gimmicks, high melodrama and odd pacing. The truth is, it's perfect. Just as it is. God only loves that which is perfect and he loves the show. He loves it because it IS perfect. It is perfect. Just as it is.
          • oh ever, honey... you with the lovely torso... if you believe this season of bsg is perfect... well... then the terrorists have already won...
            • "0 friends = troll??? Are you serious?"

              VERY serious!

It seems like you're hiding under a "false" profile trying to pick a fight...you got it troll.

Since I guess I'm "complacent" which actually equals...what, dumb? Oh wah...

Go find a bridge and guard it fan boy.
              • You guys are so funny.

I'm digging the hell out of this season. It's some of the best SPACE OPERA I've seen on tv.

                So, yeah.
                • Good "Space Opera" would be cool. I think the writers were being bad on purpose to say "this is what happens when you don't appreciate us!"

I think/HOPE it is going to improve a LOT after the hiatus.

I still enjoy watching it just to feel the atmosphere and drool over my hotties, but we all know the show has been better.
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
You know, the show is not actually a "space opera." It's supposed to be a *dark, sexy, political thriller.* That's what they re-imagined it to be.

I still enjoy watching it too. And yeah, it has been better--and so what and who cares... It's there for our enjoyment. Some people around here remind me of kids crying at disneyland, with their ridiculous whining. It makes me want to say "Just shut the fuck up and enjoy the show, already!" But I wouldn't actually say something like that to people, you know?
              • fan boy?

Of exactly what? Good writing - yes.

Complacent as accepts whatever is given. Maybe not knowing the difference between good and bad. Non-discriminatory. I wasn't suggesting that you're dumb. If you feel like I'm suggesting that then... I am sorry. I don't think you're dumb. I don't even know you.
