Well, I heard the writer of the original wasn't asked to participate and there was some drama surrounding that.

The link is to original V dramatic hamster/guinea pig. I showed the new trailer to a friend who asked," I wonder if she can unhinge her jaw." - then I hit him. Then I looked up the old scene.

I probably won't watch it, as I'm no fan of remakes. RDM had great promise, but "Daybreak" soured my opinion of him.

V was a pretty good series to begin with, despite its obvious flaws. Ultimately, there were too many loose ends, and the attempted series was a sorry affair altogether. Whether the remake will do any better remains to be seen.

Any Sci Fi that has water as the recourse they're stealing from Earth is a lost cause for me now. After all why come down here when Ganymede and Callisto are already up there. Not to mention the thousands of other giant snowballs floating just beyond Pluto.

Exactly. Nothing says "I don't know nothing about astronomy" like a science fiction story involvoing extraterrestrial cannibalism.

I don't have an issue with it. The visitors are conquerors. Its not astronomical science, its xenopology (OK I made up a word). How do you know its not in their culture to prefer food that can think?

Yeah, I think Gerard missed the point that the aliens were using the whole water issue as an excuse to gather food, not actually because water was supposedly scarce.

Didn't really miss the point. "It's a cook book!" still echoes in my ears.
What my point is, that we really need to have new story lines. District 9, which I saw last night is a fine example. Uses a lot of the same camera technique used in BSG and is very "in your face". Go see it and please DON'T LAUGH!
V was a concept thought up in the seventies where they really still believed that we are actually a species worth talking to as far as ET is concerned.
We're not. V as a story line won't work with anyone with a semblence of intellegence as the suggestion is that anyone who is around a million years technically advanced of our pathetic state, would need us for anything, yet alone as "take away" is ludicrous. We're fruit fly to them.
I enjoyed BSG because of the inter relations of the characters. The special effects were excellent. The plot was 1970s as is Star Trek 1960s. It's like asking an 18 year old for advice on how to relate to old people. Sure they can show great effects, but hell. No experience!
The writers could have done great dialog in another plot and the FX guys would do great in anything they do.
As far as water being scarce, the same goes for all sustenance. That was the point.
