  • Very true.
    • Race is a political concept ultimately, not a true scientific one...
      • Right you are.

The problem is that so long as the racists keep insisting that "race" is a reality, those who are persecuted have to think of themselves in racial terms at least some of the time.
        • The problem is not 'racists'. It is your every day person who doesn't trust science and just trust their eyes. They only look at the physical and see the "obvious" differences and assume that there is an automatic biological distinction which they call race.
          • Well, there are statistical, biological trends of genes that run together based on long-standing geographical isolations. Blacks tend to have a susceptibility to sickle cell anemia, which offers some protection against malaria. Asians tend to have better serotonin systems probably related to the lack of total taboo against suicide.

But, yes, in the modern world, more and more mutts are showing up, so that if someone looks black, white or asian, there's no certainty that they'll have the full package of genes, and thus doesn't actually belong to a "race".
            • However, none of the observable hereditary differences found among the "races" are so radical as to represent a distinctly different kind of human being.
              • That's because they aren't genetic.

There are differences in the genetic makeup between say, a Donkey and a Horse. But two human beings of separate ethnicities have the same genetic structure. The observable differences (and even the biological propensities mentioned above) have more to do with geographical isolation, as has been said already, and specified diet and breeding trends.

It's like the different pedigrees of doggy. They are all the same genetic pool, but breeding has made them all much more different than we humans are from one another. Given that our tribal consciousness gives us a tendency to want to habitate with physically similar people, it's no wonder that in the isolation of ancient times even nearby social groups ended up looking rather different after isolated breeding.

One Human Race, many unique iterations. Gotta love it!
