Okay, so they've found Earth, and it's a dud. The only thing left unresolved is the Fifth Unknown Cylon, who has to be behind everything we've seen thus far. Ruling out the 'Who', we can at least infer a few 'What''s.

1. The Fifth apparently has access to sophisticated technology, at the very least an entire shipyard or manufacturing process--Starbuck's Viper looks newly-minted.

2. The Fifth is capable of either wiping Starbuck's memories or of placing her in some kind of stasis, since she remembers next to nothing about her journey beyond a few vague recollections.

3. The Fifth is Machiavellian, as (s)he has been manipulating events and determining the course of the Exodus, probably from the very beginning.

4. The Fifth is unaffected by the Cylon Civil War, implying (s)he has little or nothing to lose.

5. If (s)he has nothing to lose, then it is logical to assume that the Fifth has a redoubt or headquarters located far away from the battlefields, and is unafraid of that base being discovered.

6. If the above is true, then either the entire base is either Cloaked (impractical--power consumption would be too great) or the location is known only to the Fifth, and is probably well-protected.

7. If the base is well-protected, the Fifth must have several divisions of Centurions and many squadrons of Raiders to protect the base. Also, such protectors would be "unmodified", and incapable of higher thought--drones to the Fifth's will.

8. It is reasonable to assume that the Fifth knew about the attack on the Twelve Colonies, as all Cylons knew about it, save those few "sleepers" sent in to infiltrate. The fact that the Fifth did nothing to stop said attack is proof of the Fifth's "inhumane" attitude toward human life.

9. If the Fifth was behind the whirlpool which brought Starbuck to Earth (as seems likely) then the Fifth could arrange a similar transport-effect as (s)he sees fit.

10. The Fifth is capable of generating sensory images visible to only one person, for the express purpose of manipulating that person's actions. Such a tool has proven to be extraordinarily useful in population control. This also implies long-term research and experimentation into psychology, sensory input, and behavioral manipulation.

11. Given the long period of the Exodus, the Fifth has well-developed patience.

12. The fifth has access to large amounts of raw materials, particularly fuel and ammunition. (S)He has been able to track both the fleet and their Cylon pursuers across hundreds of parsecs.

13. Given the time spent on the pursuit, the Fifth must have a vested interest in both the fleet and the Cylons which has not yet been discovered. Such an interest supersedes all common necessities (food, clothing, shelter).

14. If the Fifth went to Earth before the fleet or the Cylons it is possible that (s)he was there before the nuclear devestation. If that is the case, samples of Earth (people, technology, information) may have been salvaged and put into storage by the Fifth for future use.

15. If the Fifth has been at the back of everything that has thus far happened, then the Fifth regards both humans and Cylons as mere pawns to be used and discarded as needed. As such, (s)he will not appear until such time as (s)he desires, and will be well-armed and prepared for all eventualities.

16. To accomplish everything, the Fifth would undoubtedly need more than one human (or, skinjob) lifetime, and as such is not affected by age, such as Saul Tigh. It is also likely that the Fifth would not take the risk of either accidental death or discovery, and has therefore built a private Resurrection Hub!

Despite finding Earth, the fleet has yet to face its greatest challenge.

G*ddam good a**ed episode.

My feeling about this season (and the entire series in fact) is that in the end it will be meant to be absorbed like a well written novel. Not every page will be on fire, but the pages that are on fire are smoking because everything makes sense. To me the set up for what is happening now all makes sense. For my part it was necessary to spend a few episodes on character development so that the choices that lead up to whatever dramatic ending this story has make sense. I know for some it was tedious, but whatever. If we had just hopped from final five revelation to some other exciting plot twist and on to another the show would be as flat as every other sci-fi show out there (including Star Trek... though I hold some reservations on that critique for Deep Space Nine). What makes this show head and shoulders above everything else in and out of its genre is the way the charecter development DRIVES the action and the plot. That is the way it is supposed to be.

Because of the slow episodes we know all of the nuances driving Tigh's actions. And although we have four revealed cylons we can distinguish between them and understand their motivations. We know now that everyone seems to be in a very important position to influence what happens next. Sam and Gaeta, Tory, Roslin and Baltar, Tigh and Tryol, Tyrol and Athena, Tyrol and Hera, Tyrol and Baltar, Tigh and Adama, Tigh and Six, Tigh and Athena (murderer of a Six)... there are so many that I could go on at length but the point is any and/or all of these dynamics could be major factors. There is so much to consider while watching each episode because we know so much about each character and that at times makes the show unbearably tense, to me, makes each episode excruciatingly good.

I suspect once the entire series is out on DVD and there is time to absorb it as a complete narrative at whatever pace suits you, much like a novel it will flow and every piece will be as satisfying as it should be. There will always be those who will complain that the pace is too slow and those are the folks that are probably apt to jump ahead a few chapters or to the end of the book when reading a novel.

I know some folks just won't agree with me, but whatever. There has been plenty of bashing of the writers, I mays as well stand up and speak my peace.

Full Circle?

The Hybrid said, ""And the fifth, still in the shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them."

Redemption for their treatment of the Twelve Colonies? For New Caprica? For all the battles, all the tortures, all the death? Is redemption possible? And if so, how?

I can only postulate one way: The Cylons must repair, replace, and rebuild all that they have despoiled. They must put themselves at the disposal of the humans, and follow their every command. "By your command"!

In effect, the Cylons would have to return to the servitude which they were originally created for! To win redemption and escape from their sins, they would have to go back to the beginning.

This hypothesis is not as far-fetched as it sounds. Consider that the Cylons--in attempting to understand their creators--took it upon themselves to study both science and religion. They saw themselves as the next step in evolution, and married that to the idea that the child always seeks to better the parent.

In terms of technology Cylons have appeared to out do their creators, but in religion, and emotions, and philosophy they made mistake after mistake. Not surprising, really. To quote Bladerunner, "We began to recognize in them a strange obsession. After all, they are emotionally inexperienced, with only a few years in which to store up the experiences which you and I take for granted." Moreover, the Cylons had no parent-figure to guide them. They were literally feral children, fending for themselves. Small wonder they turned to religion in an attempt to point the way. That works for some people, of course. Religion acts a salve; each time you burn yourself the words make the pain go away. For a while. But if the wound festers, after a while no salve in the world will help--and the person in pain starts thinking about fire! Burn away the infection of the soul and grow stronger. Sadly, what usually happens is that all the love is consumed in the process, and all that is left is self-righteousness and a desire to punish!

Which brings us back to the Cylons. They've almost gone back to the beginning: no resurrection ships, only a handful of them left, and the promised land has proved to be a barren heath almost devoid of life. They've practically moved back in with their parents, and the Older Sister who seemed to have all the answers has proved to be almost as clueless as the rest of them. So, what now?

Either they will open the Sacred Scrolls, or go for a class of Sunday School with Father Baltar, and the subject will turn to Redemption. What can be done to clear the slate?

I'm reminded of the Mr. Wizard cartoons, where the protagonist looks up and says, "Aw Mr. Wizard, I made a mess of things again!"

"Be just what you is," says Mr. Wizard, shaking his finger pedantically, "not what you is not. Folks that do this are the happiest lot."

The Cylons were created to be servants. They must return to servitude to earn their redemption.

The "virus". Did it die with the people of Earth? Or did it mutate?
Otherwise the Cylons with the humans will die real soon.
That is assuming the probe came from Earth or that the virus
itself did (where else would a Voyager style probe pick it up?)
What other microbes are on Earth waiting to infect both
Colonials and Cylons alike? Nukes can barely touch
them.

Who put the note above the command console for Adama
to find stating that there "are only 12 models..."? And why?

How will the Cylons with Cavil react upon meeting the
four/five? It's only a matter of time until they find Earth
as well.

A thought on the last episode: it looks like an alternate
version of what would have been the final episode.
A final episode as bitter and controversial as the End of
Evangelion movie. Makes me wonder if RDM is a Neon
Genesis fan after all :-)

Jesus! What a mind-frak of an episode!

I did NOT see THAT Earth being at the end of the line. Current day, maybe. Ancient past, more likely. But eons after a Terran apocalypse? Nope!

And now we get to wait until 2009 for the real finalé?!! Arrrgghhhhhh!!!

Even a series of webisodes or one or more Razor-ish movies isn't going to make the time pass any faster!

Sigh ...

I was camping all last week and the standard SciFi channel stream I ussually watch BSG on, isn't making "The Hub" available for some reason...

Are there any other legal (i.e. authorized and/or copyright-ok) sites I can stream this episode from?

PS> I'm terribly uptight about that legal part...

What a fraking great episode. Next week looks hella crazy and I love that look that D'anna gives the fab four.

And what about the special effects when the Hub blew? That was something beautiful.

Only one more until 2009! Arg! Totally gonna suck...but be well worth the wait. Do you think they will do a DVD release thing like they did with Season 2 (2.0 and 2.5)?

The wild cards in the BG saga are the Centurions. With the inhibitor against higher functions removed, there is nothing to stop them from accumulating information and experiences with both humans and skinjobs, and forming their own conclusions. There is also the wealth of information available to them in the Cylon databases about Cylon history after the first armistice was signed, something that the humans no nothing about.

What conclusions they might draw is impossible to say, but judging from the fact that they require courtesies from skinjobs to do their assigned tasks means that they already consider themselves equals, which is a dangerous precedent as the Cavils pointed out. Who knows what new demands they will make?

Now that the series is ending and how we saw Adama sitting by himself in a Raptor as the fleet jumps off, I came to realize that the Raptor has been portrayed as just a shuttle and scout ship in the episodes. In the BSG wiki, it apparently has weapons, but I've never seen it used. <http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Raptor> I've seen them go into battle supporting the Vipers...but then, what are they really doing.

I wouldn't had mind if I'd seen the Raptors take more of an offensive role by killing a few Raiders with it's missles or cannons...but, I didn't.

...okay, fanboy rant off.

NEXT EPISODE: POSSIBLE SPOILERS

So the Latin phrase Sine Qua Non means "without which it could not be." I believe I saw Romo Napkin on the next preview episode. Anyone have any thoughts why this character is reurning? and why the phrase "without which it could not be" is used as the title episode?

Also where the frak did the baseship jump to? Hmm?

Do you like mid-season finales?

Scifi keeps giving us mid-season finales. It might have first started with the show Ghost Hunters a year or two ago. Now its being done with Battlestar too (I just started watching battlestar 2 seasons ago). While they may have valid reasons, like the writers strike, but I have a gut feeling they are going to keep doing the mid-season finale thing on other shows. I kind of like them, but having to wait another year for more episodes is torture.
Predictions for the next episode Fri (30th)

So what are your predictions for the characters in the next episode?? If you somehow have real spoilers please don't post. This is for people just watching like normal.

What do you think Tigh will do? He is the only one that hasnt taken hard action about his Cylon identity. Do you think the Six in the jail has some kind of power over him?

- I think Tigh will go against the presidents assistant cylon (whatsername) that had sex with baltar. She is a loose card. I think Tigh might rat out the other cylons in the group. But he is playing it cool until he can get evidence. Him and sharon so far seem like the only cylons that are worth a damn. I know I forget plot points, but I hope they don't make Tigh change sides, he is too awesome.

2007–2008 WGA strike and BSG

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong here. The first BSG 4.0 episodes were written and filmed before the writers strike on Nov. 5 2007, then after a four month hiatus they resumed filming.

I would also assume that during that four month period (whether or not they actually acknowledge it) they had considerable time to rehash and nail down the final plot lines and episodes.

my question is this: Do you think that we will see a significant shift in episode direction and writing after this break? And will it be for the better?

the fifth cylon is......

The dog! Finally, after all this time the fifth cyclon has been revealed! I feel relieved because I originally thought it was the cat but then I found out it's an imaginary pussy so....like many of us who have those...I was relieved when the final cyclon barked...Now that the secret has been discovered what can we expect from this harbinger of cylonic history?...Well, first, we know that the tribe will not end up in
Egypt...cats have the upper paw there...(by the way, what does 'the tribe' eat anyway?..is that why there are no animals seen???)...after the singing espisode I thought 'the tribe' would end up being the lost tribe of israel but no..it was just one of those weird singing moments we all know and love (probably a left over from the Miami Vice years).....Anyway, we all know how manipulative dogs are and how they can get their way with little of no verbal interaction (must be a relief for the writers). And like Noah's ark..they carry many life forms with them....yes, it's the dog.

I finally tracked down video of Razor. They didn't have it on the SciFi site so last night I just googled til I found it.

What I didn't get is... on the BSG forums, people were talking about this big prophecy from the hybrid. But at the end of the one I saw he just said the same thing the other hybrid says later. "Starbuck is the harbinger of death, blah blah blah"
Did I see one that has an alternate ending? Did I watch it in the Bizarro universe? Or am I missing something else here?

Hope someone can help sort this out. Oh ya, Hi....

"Just as we consider earthly creatures as 'a brother' and 'sister', why should we not talk about an 'extraterrestrial brother'? It would still be part of creation."

Do the Cylons believe in one God or multiple Gods? I thought it was just one God, but I heard one of the Cylons exclaim "Oh Gods" when they got agitated on the basestar in the latest episode.

Well...It's about Fraking Time!!!

I loved tonights episode. Made up for the crappy set up. I get the feeling that they are misinterpreting the Hybrids message.

What was it all again?

Dying leader learning about the opera house.
The Three knowing the Five
The Five (something to do with) the Thirteenth Tribe (this is the one I think is interpreted wrong)
and Kara leading them all to their death (also, possibly misunderstood)

I'm thinking that Kara leading "them" to their death may be referring to the death of The Five.

I also think, after hearing that and seeing this episode, that what sets The Five apart from the rest of the Cylons is this: They are from The Thirteenth Colony...i.e. they're from Earth. Just a working theory.

And, apparently Hera is the shape of things to come...we'll find out next week.

So, I'm dreaming about a friend whose plane is to arrive shortly. She lands in the open space behind my apartment in a cylon raider. I find this a little strange, as in WTFrak? She replies," What? I told you I might have to take the red-eye."

- the red-eye - ...

Seriously - and the radio in the thing was playing Depeche Mode "Personal Gaius."

Cylon Frailty

An insight just occurred to me: one of the primary reasons for the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies was their belief that Cylons were a superior form of life. Somewhere back at the beginning Six or Boomer said something to the effect that the proof of the flaw in humanity was that humans were the only form of life that killed their own kind. Now, however, civil war has broken out among the Cylons; Natalie shot Six in the head; centurions are shooting skinjobs; and the Eights tried to entice Athena into leading a mutiny.

Sooner or later it's going to occur to the Cylons (probably Cavil, as he is the more spiritual of the lot) that Homo-Cylonus is no better than Homo-Sapiens. Cylons make mistakes, too, and probably even bigger ones. And if that is true, then how can they justify either their pursuit of the Colonials, or even the separation of the two races. Perfection or evolution is a mutual goal, so why not do it together?

Perhaps "humanity's end" which the hybrids spoke is the end of humanity as a solo species, and the beginning of a new one! The apocalypse which Kara is the herald of is the death of the doom which has hung over the fleet since the beginning of the series. A Laura Roslin saw on the ferry, death itself is only the beginning....!

If anyone on the board lives around here, West Side even better, and has the episodes on DVR or something to catch me up that would be outstanding, I'm not going to read any of the posts, I have only seen the first episode of season 4, just send me a message thanks.

So, what did you all think?

I see a pattern developing here that I saw last season. The episodes are far more cerebral and touching on issues relevant to the psychology of the characters, rather than on character interaction and big explosions.

I liked the episode, but I foresee a lot of complaints from fans because of this approach. But, oh well...it's the last season.

So, Sorry I'm behind the the times and just finished season 3, which overall was a great season (for the part, the boxing episode was lame, as well as the one w/ Helo having to take care of the sick people, but I digress).
The last Episode was In true BSG style a great action packed episode, and fining out 4 of the final five was perfect timing....
BUT...
All along the watchtower?
how at all is that song referance relavant?
It seems a litte wierd to me

"In the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series (2003-2008), the character of Number Six - a beautiful Cylon infiltrator played by model Tricia Helfer - is named as an homage to The Prisoner, according to writer/ producer Ronald D Moore."

Cylon Civil War

So far unmentioned is the burgeoning Cylon Civil War, which has, in the words of one of them, split the fleet right down the middle. Added to which is the growing knowledge of the centurions. Their insistence on the word "please" in the last episode indicates that they insist on being addressed as equals, rather than as servants or automatons.

If the civil war spreads, as all wars do, then it may follow a predictable pattern: attacks, defenses, fortifications, espionage, counterintelligence, and finally, alliances! either one side or the other may approach the fleet and request aid in defeating their enemies. The humans have, after all, defeated the Cylons on many occasions--they would be no small ally, especially not when augmented by the seemingly endless supplies and ordnance of the Cylon hordes. For payment/compensation, the wishes or needs of the fleet as a whole could be fulfilled. Didn't Tigh himself say the Galactica needed "six months in drydock"?

13 models - all revealed except #7 - the missing godpiece. All have different beliefs and drives. Murder is as commonplace as in ancient Rome. I don't see a plan. Six would say, "God's plan" - but Cavel would be quick to tell you god is fiction. Maybe the plan is to find and destroy or populate earth? Maybe it is to make a perfect slice of hot buttery toast.

If the cylons succeed in their breeding with the crew - though if everyone HAD to choose among the male cylons, Anders would be a busy man - and they DO get to Earth - are we all descendants of the BSG crew and the skin jobs? We do seem to have a "one God" theme on Earth, which implies we are all cylon scions.

Something that has been bothering me is how the Athena Sharon supposedly has a lot of the memories of Boomer Sharon, but they are supposed to be different copies. Athena was supposed to be on Caprica seducing Helo during the time that Boomer was still on Galactica, before being shot, right? How can Athena Sharon have Boomer's memories of being in the service, and shared experiences with all her friends there like Starbuck the "older sister" and her affair w Chief?... Unless she has just been lying about having the memories and was able to fabricate them based on reports by other cylon spies aboard Galactica? but why would the Galactica folks buy her story?

Anyone have thoughts on this/something I'm missing here?

Fifth Cylon

By George, I think I've got it!

The fifth cylon is Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch)!

We've noted that four of the remaining five were all in positions of power and authority, but they were all legitimate forms of authority: Chief Petty Officer, Political, Resistance Leader, XO of the Galactica. Tom Zarek is a rebel against society, and a member of the Crimininal Underworld. While on New Caprica, he refused to cooperate with Baltar and went back to prison, where he returned to his element.

With Roslin back in center stage, Tom is back in the shadows, undoubtedly rebuilding his contacts.

And from a cinematic point of view, what could be more ironic than the old Apollo being a Cylon mastermind?

What is the Baltar booty count? Not just the actual sex scenes but the implied booty with his presidential interns and cultists?

My other thought, was Cavel clearly HATES to die - so I love watching him die. Leoban doesn't mind death. Loves a passionate death at Sarbuck's hands more than anything, but a regular death isn't much too of a bother. Cavel really hates death. I'm amused.

Final Take on the Final Five

There's a reason only four of the five were revealed in the Season 3 climax. That's because the fifth (actually the first) member had already been revealed: Sharon (aka Athena). As the mother of Hera, she stands at the center of the pantheon portrayed as glowing figures in the Opera House. Six, guarding Hera in her arms, reacts in fear and awe as she realizes that her claims on Hera's birthright are futile in the face of Athena's ascendancy. In an earlier episode where she revealed Hera's impending birth to Baltar, Six disdainfully referred to Sharon as unworthy of the honor of carrying the first hybrid offspring. Six now understands that Hera was never anyone but Athena's child from the beginning.

Sharon was in fact a triple agent whose mission was to infiltrate the Significant Seven on behalf of the Final Five. This is the Sharon who first appeared at the climax of the mini-series at Ragnar Station. Undercover as part of the Humlon chain of command, she allowed herself to be cloned. Oneof Sharon's clones was programmed as sleeper agent Boomer, placed on board the Galactica, who later shot Adama and was killed and resurrected on Caprica. Meanwhile, Sharon had rescued and seduced Helo on Caprica, and returned with him to the Galactica. She has been aware from the start of her role at the center of the Final Five, whose mission is to protect humanity from the Cylon force led by the Significant Seven. This is why Sharon betrayed the Significant Seven and left Caprica to join the rest of the Final Five on board the Galactica.

Kara Thrace is a Cylon sleeper agent, similar to Boomer. The difference is that her Cylon programming never quite engaged and she remained convinced of her humanity up until her recent death. This explains her schizoid personality, superhuman stamina, incomparable piloting skills, and instinctive ability to hot-wire a dead Cylon Raider and fly it back home to Galactica.

The Cylons have shown a personal interest in Kara's destiny, and attempted to directly intervene in her life (Simon breeding farm, Leoben kidnapping and seduction on New Caprica). These were desperate attempts by the Cylons to trigger Kara's blocked Cylon programming. They could not simply kill and resurrect her, since a sleeper agent's download-on-death mechanism is not activated until her Cylon programming is triggered.

Kara's death crisis was brought on by the escalating psychological strain of resisting her unconcious Cylon programming. The flight from her inner self was transformed into a literal flight into oblivion. She accepted death at the moment she broke through the myth of her own humanity and realized her true Cylon nature. With her Cylon programming finally activated, she downloaded into the nearest Cylon Resurrection Ship.

After her rebirth on the Resurrection Ship, the Humlon chain of command decides to return Kara to the Fleet as a self-aware Cylon agent. Her mission is to confuse and mislead the humans with fabricated tales of having been to Earth, distracting them while the Cylons attempt to find the real route to Earth. The Cylons replicate Kara's destroyed Viper and send her back to rendezvous with Lee. To cover up the holes in her story, Kara feigns partial amnesia and agressively demands that everyone accept her tales without question. When Roslin sees through her ruse and has her put under guard, Kara overpowers her guards and takes Roslin hostage.

The hybrid Cylon from Razor foresaw the role that Kara was destined to play and attempted to warn Kendra of the danger that she will pose to the Fleet. This hybrid Cylon was the evolutionary predecessor and progenitor of the Final Five. It was he who sent Sharon on her original mission to infiltrate the Humlon chain of command, and he who subliminally guided the rest of the Final Five along their paths to becoming benign sleeper agents aboard the Galactica. Consider this prophecy spoken by the hybrid:

"Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves. The pain of revelation bringing new clarity.

And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering."

He had a baby with Kalie...which means that their child is also a cylon-human hybrid. Right? I wonder if that will play into this new season at all...

Six Of One - POSSIBLE SPOILER

For those that have seen the teaser for the upcoming S4E02:

The BSG Wiki ( www.battlestarwiki.org ) has the title of the next episode up and it notes that the title might refer to 2 things:

- an old saying that goes "six of one, half a dozen of the other." BSGWiki says its about equivalence but another reference is to how two people can use different language to describe the same experience. The upcoming episode introduces a new version of Number Six named Natalie and from what's gleaned through a teaser for S4, she means to united the Cylons "once and for all".

- "Six of One" also refers to "The Prisoner" tv show. The main character played by Patrick McGoohan is called either Number Six or Six of One by the mysterious leaders of the Village. The TV show was mainly about Six's attempts to escape the Village and also to learn the reason why he was captured in the first place. The Village leaders believed Six knows something of vital importance and that it was the reason for his resignation from the secret service. RDM is stated to be a fan of The Prisoner. A recent cast rollcall for S4E02 has James Callis as Virtual Baltar (info gleaned from the BSG Wiki also) in this episode. It looks like Caprica Six aims to misbehave by escaping from her cell aboard Galactica.

My verdict: This might be a Six-centric episode as well as a continuation of last week's episode.

So, since Saul is appearantly one of the final five cylons - yet he has been aroiund longer than the Cylons and has aged in that time, it was suggested that...

>>the 5 are a completely different kind of beast.

I think they may actually have some relationship to the 13th colony humans... maybe after the first war, the Cylons made contact with Earth and there gained the ability to make the humanoid Cylons - the final 5 could even be Cylon 'puppets' created based on the genetics and personalities of founders/humans/13th tribers.

Maybe the thirtheenth tribe humans gave the cylons the humanoid-cylon technology - at the cost of requiring the cylons to create and deploy the 'final five' models as they have (so the final 5 could connect with the rest of the humans).

Evidence:

1) The temple of 5 was erected by the 13th colony a long time before the Cylon wars - but it was in the temple of five where the Three had a vision of the final five cylons.

2) The whole Kobold Opera House vision the Cylons have - they were not on Kobold during that era but the 13th colony was.

3) 4 of final-five cylons suddenly 'woke up' just as approaching Earth.

4) The whole "this has happened before, and will happen again" philosophy may go back to the 13th colony and their own man-made-machine-rebels event (which could lead to them trying to reach out to the future humans/cylons to try and prevent the total destruction of humanity).

Gaius continues to be my favorite character. He had me in hysterics with that one. Yet, ten minutes later I believed him when he was praying and asking for death. He pulls off the transition between drama and comedic relief like nobody else.

JUPITER, and the Eye of Horus

"What follows is the story of Jupiter and the Egyptian god Horus, seen here as a hawk with it's wings spread like the gaping mouth of the serpent on the face of Jupiter .. poised and ready to engulf the adorning Eye!

"Pure luck has played it's part as well .. because never before have we known what the Ancients actually thought .. but this time we do .. for not only is the Eye of Horus accurate in detail with respect to the Eye on the face of Jupiter .. this time we've found legible records telling us what they believed .. and how they honored it in celebration! These records are etched in stone in the pyramids of Saqqara and are known to us as the Pyramid Texts.2 .. The first passage that we'll look at from the Texts, § 1806, reads..

""O Osiris the King, the gods have knit together your face for you and Horus has given you his Eye, that you may see with it."

"HORUS is probably the most mis-understood diety of ancient Egypt. He was never a god himself, although as an icon he was to gain lasting fame and godly stature. Horus was the metaphorical son of Osiris and Isis and profiled everything that was noble and decent, he was motion and he was light, he was fruitfulness and all that was beautiful, and in the most eloquent manner of his being, he represented the nobleness of the role of union in the act of procreation in the budding newness of man's existance!

"BROWN DWARFS do other things that are far more interesting than their storms .. they eject in missle fashion .. planetary bodies.4

"The Ancients believed that Jupiter, being what we call a Brown Dwarf, was the Matriarchal progenitor of the earth. Earth was fashioned, as their story goes, within the very depths of Jupiter, and was ejected into space through the stormy Eye and the mouth of the serpent .. as Horus of the Gods.5

"It was this belief that was eternally immortalized in the motif of the Eye of Horus.6

"The gods who knit the face of Jupiter, were the nine of the Ennead, Atum, Shu, Tefenet, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys. One can see in the Texts that the gods would use these names when speaking .. but when the gods performed tasks the names would assume modifiers. Hence it was that Osiris was Osiris the King when as a god he was Jupiter.

"The final note of this extraordinary story falls on Horus, son of Osiris the King ..
"O Osiris the King, may your vision be cleared by means of the light .. and be brightened by the dawn8 {for} I am Horus who came forth from the Eye of Horus .. I am Horus of the Gods .. and I have lighted on the vertex of Re in the prow of his bark which is in the Abyss."9
And the earth was born and the light shone on it's shores for the first time!"

www.beforebc.com/jupitereyeofhorus.html

***I found this article very interesting and it seems to have interesting possible correlations with the current story line. Anyone else have ideas about this as a possible theory?

Caprica get's the green light

...and of course I'll be watching.

12:00 AM, 20-MARCH-08
Caprica Very Different From Battlestar
David Eick and Ronald D. Moore, executive producers of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica, told SCI FI Wire that their upcoming prequel Caprica will be a markedly different series.

Eick compared it to the feature film American Beauty, while Moore referenced the TV soap opera Dallas.

"Caprica is a story that Ron Moore and I concocted with [co-executive producer] Remi Aubuchon, and we're casting as we speak," Moore said in an interview at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. "I'm very excited about that. If Battlestar Galactica is Black Hawk Down, I would say that Caprica is American Beauty. Caprica is all about the inner lives of the people on a planet and how their personal relationships as well as their professional relationships inform what will become the creation of the Cylons."

Moore, a former Star Trek writer and producer, said that Caprica is not a show along the lines of any Trek spinoff series. "It's a different animal altogether," he said in a separate interview. "Unlike those shows, which are all riffs on the same notion of what Star Trek was, Caprica is really a completely different kind of genre. We're trying to do something different."

Instead of Galactica's action-adventure space-based war show, Caprica will tell a story that takes place before any of the wars happened. "This is really more of a sci-fi Dallas," Moore said. "It's a political story, a family story. It's about the creation of the Cylons, and it's about a company. It's planet-based. It's very character-oriented, very serialized and very much about the characters. It's a whole different genre, and that's what makes it exciting."

Production will begin this spring on a two-hour backdoor pilot. Moore said he will be "very involved" with the pilot, but stressed that it's too soon to say whether he'd remain on board if SCI FI Channel gave the green light for a weekly Caprica show.

"If it goes to series, it kind of depends when that happens and what I'm doing," he said. "We'll just wait and see." --Ian Spelling

...and I were a Cylon, I'd pick four of the most interesting characters in the Fleet, and arrange to convince them all that they are Cylons at the same time.
After all, if I can make a human love a Cylon, then fracking with already-paranoid brains should be a piece of cake.

Before season 4 comes out - there are a few things I want to say for the record about what I think is happening in the BSG universe:

1) The final-five cylon that the Three model recognized was Sam.
2) The last final-five cylon is NOT Thrace nor the President.
3) The humanoid cylons aren't strictly speaking cylons - they are somehow descendants of the 13th tribe.

Anyone else want to go on the record about things - pre-season four?

I just turned my girlfriend on to BSG. She'd never seen it, I've never missed an episode. We met while the show was in hiatus, and she was piqued when I began gushing about the final season coming up.

Last night we watched 5 HOURS OF IT, at her request. The miniseries and the first two eps.

It's gonna be weird splitting my time between reviewing the old seasons with her, and tuning in every Friday for the new episodes. Oh, the things we do for love.

Might have missed a previous post on this, but i was wondering if anyone had any theories about the last-supper-looking image from the sci-fi battlestar site (someone's got it in the gallery).

Cause.....why is Caprica Six posed as Jesus? And who's missing?

(12 disciples plus Jesus, 12 Cylon models plus ????? the hybrid maybe?)

exodus ratings? (spoilers)

i just stumbled upon this online:

"Exodus" (parts one and two) are the third and fourth episodes of the third season from the science fiction television series, Battlestar Galactica. These episodes set consecutive records for the lowest Nielsen rating for Battlestar Galactica episodes. Part One earned a 1.6 rating, the lowest at the time, while Part Two earned an even lower 1.5 rating."

wtf? exodus part ii was the best fracking episode of the whole damned series, with the galactica freefall and the pegasus sacrifice... how in the world is it the lowest rated episode of the show?

The new Galactica reminds me of B5

I hadn't noticed this at first, but it seems to me that the Galactica as presented in the new series looks like it could've been a Babylon 5 spaceship. It's as if the Earth Alliance and the Narn Regime combined their efforts to create one mega-powerful warship! Not only that, there's also that shaky-camera-zoom-in effect which they also did on B5. Now I'm not saying the new Galactica is a B5 rip-off. It's just that I've noticed certain similarities between the two shows.

The Final Five Cylons Revealed!

My take on the Final Five:

This is the Sharon who first appeared at the climax of the mini-series at Ragnor Station. Undercover as part of the Humlon chain of command, she allowed herself to be cloned (but has not herself died or been resurrected). One of Sharon's clones was programmed as sleeper agent Boomer, placed on board the Galactica, who later shot Adama and was killed and resurrected on Caprica.

There is one last unrevealed Cylon, who is unknown to both the Final Five and the Significant Seven. That Cylon's identity will be concealed until the climax of the entire series, when the fleet finally touches down on Earth. The returning humans will find a single person there to greet them, played by Ronald D. Moore himself. He will extend to them a warm welcome, remarking that "all of this has happened before, all of this will happen again". An army of Ronald D. Moore clones will then emerge, proclaiming in unison, "So say we all!"

What's up with Razor only being played on that one weekend? No replay during the holidays. No search results on the Sci-Fi schedule web page search. They better replay it again before the new season debuts...

Production wraps on Battlestar Galactica

http://www.rondmoore.com/Site/Blog/Entries/2007/11/17_Galactica_wraps.html

From what I've read around, they've gotten halfway through the final season and have created 13 episodes, which is all they're contractually obligated to do. The final 7 or so scripts haven't been written, although they've pretty much worked out the story. However, the actors are technically released from their contracts, the network is not obligated to order up the final episodes, and RDM is not obligated to deliver them.

We may have an unfinished story in BSG.

I *doubt* it won't be completed, but it's within the realm of possibilities. As Adama would put it, sometimes you have to roll a hard six.

<rant>
As much as I want the show to complete, I hope the writers hold firm on their demands. What they are asking for is by no means unreasonable, and the media companies are being offensively petty. I'm glad to see that RDM and the writers & production teams behind BSG and other shows that I enjoy are fighting for their rights to earn a reasonable living off their work. The media companies are creating a shell game, claiming that network based media is such a mystery that there may be no money in it. However, they're already making money off it, and simply refusing to pass on the chunk that they owe the writers. I'd gladly trade the conclusion of the show for a healthy, appropriately compensated writing community.
</rant>
