Okay...random...running thought.

Since Starbuck isn't really Starbuck at the end; she is an "Angel" or whatever, do you think that diminishes her actual death? As a fan of various TV shows over the years, I have always wanted those characters that I know and love to, when they do die, go out with purpose. Or at least in a way that drives the show further. When Kutner dies in House, it was not how I would have done it, but you cannot deny that that death, shaped the rest of the season, and will continue to play a big part in this upcoming season.

I have always loved Starbuck as a character and was excited when they brought her back. She developed further and morphed into something, fascinating. However, if we look back to her original death, when she was kind of going nuts (or was really going nuts) and essentially killed herself because she was seeing Leobin, but now has no retribution because she never truly returned....

I don't really know what question should follow that statement, but it just sort of started running in my head. What are your thoughts?

I had forgotten how much I loved the mini-series. I had not seen it, until after season 3.0. I purchased the Season 1 dvd and finally got to see it, along with most of season 1 for the first time. The writing and general story is just amazing. I also love season 2.0. Of course there are episodes that just do not stack up in my mind, but that is how any television show ends up. Even my truly beloved X-Files has episodes I don't mind skipping through.

I am watching the episode 'Resistance' right now. I love the irony of Tigh beating the Chief, accusing him of being a cylon. Knowing what we know now, that just makes this episode so much more entertaining.

One of the things that strikes me is the difference between the music between the first season and seasons 2-4.5. Bear truly enhanced the show with his compositions. I wish he had featured particular instruments more often (bassoon for one....I love the bassoon) but overall I truly have enjoyed the shift.

...and more cowbell...I always need more cowbell.

Consider these facts (as they exist within RDM's BG history):

The Twelve Colonies developed over a considerable length of time. Within that time-frame, FTL drives were developed for both commercial and military use. By the time of the first Cylon War (and probably well before it) humanity had to have launched many exploratory missions--because the Galactica had charts clear out to the Prolmar sector and beyond. From reviewing dialogue from the first episode and later, it's fairly clear that although the Colonials didn't leave the Colonies much, they certainly weren't limited to it.

If all of that is true, then it is certainly possible that there were years, possibly decades worth of exploratory teams traveling outward from the Colonial system: commercial outfits, espionage units exploring the Cylon borders, political dissidents, etc.

If that is the case, it's unlikely that they would be of the same cowardly bend as Adama and his "back to nature" group. They might well have a starfaring culture of their own.

This might be a way to pull RDM's fat out of a well-deserved fire!

Bryan Singer to direct and produce 'Battlestar Galactica' movie
by Nicole Sperling
Categories: Film, News, Uncategorized
Battlestar Galactica is getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures has confirmed blog speculation that Bryan Singer, director of Valkyrie, will take on directing and producing duties for a BSG movie. Glen Larson, who created original series back in 1978, will produce as well. The film is not expected to be a continuation of current popular television show that’s running on the SyFy network but will be a complete re-imagining of the sci-fi lore that was invented by Larson back in the 70s.

The review below is not really that spoiler-heavy, and contains little that hasn't been seen widely in reviews. I just wanted to mention this, in case you want to know absolutely nothing before seeing it. You may want to join the new Caprica tribe...

So, I and a couple of friends watched it today, the unrated version on DVD.

I have to say, I was quite impressed! It was co-written by Ron Moore, and feels very much of the same universe as BSG. It's much more "sci fi" than I was expecting; I assumed it would be drama with just hints of sci fi, but it really delves into Caprican technology deeply, which is in fact the basis for the whole show.

It is definitely another dark, disturbing, grown-up drama that's definitely not for kids.

This unrated version will not be shown on TV, but it starts right off with some very adult situations - nudity, group sex, outrageous violence, all in a virtual world, where teens go to imagine anything they want, with no rules, no boundaries.

We see the beginnings of the events that will culminate in those leading to BSG.

The show starts with the words: "Caprica - 58 years before the fall," a rather chilling reminder of what's to come.

The show concerns the lives of two men, Daniel Graystone, a scientist, and Joseph Adams, a lawyer. Joseph is an off-worlder, who has changed his name to fit in better. His real last name... Adama, of course! He has an 11-year-old son, Willie Adams (we'll know him better as William Adama). It addresses many hot-button topics: racism, religious conflict, terrorism, teenage sexuality and rebellion, the ethics of artificial intelligence, etc.

Both men lose their daughters in a terrorist attack, and are drawn together by Graystone's shocking discovery of how much of a genius his daughter was. This has huge implications for the story.

Graystone is working on creating a robot soldier, which he calls a Cybernetic Life-form Node, or (you guessed it) a "Cylon" for short. His Cylons are clumsy and slow. They need a better "brain" and he discovers that a rival company has perfected one. He sets out to acquire it, in order to hold on to a lucrative Caprican government contract to build the artificial army. But his daughter's death adds an unexpected twist to this quest, and this event begins to re-define what "alive" and "artificial" really mean. What happens next sets the stage for everything that follows. These early Cylons are just as creepy as their later counterparts!

I was very happy with this as a series premier, and I eagerly look forward to how it develops. Sci Fi has picked it up for 20 episodes, so I hope it attracts a strong following. No, there are no flashy space battles, but this is a very different kind of science fiction: dark, grown-up, realistic, with a strong emphasis on characterization, and some fine acting... not unlike a certain other show we've been discussing here.

I think JJ Abrams Star Trek was excellent. It was so bright and optimistic - a rare future indeed. Was it my ideal Trek movie? No - but I'm the first to admit my ideal Trek movie would be too esoteric to appeal to a wide audience.

The new Terminator movie is technically not a redo but it is a future we were trying to avoid - So much for "no fate but what you make." Starbuck will tell you that doesn't fly. When I think of the first movie - its really about a woman finding hidden resources of power she didn't know she had. Its also a love story. The guy traveled through time because he fell in love with a picture of her. Yes, its also about Skynet and terminators trying to eliminate humankind. This trailer - ahhh where to start. Its Terminator minus hope, love and female power. Dark and homoerotic. Well, that's how it looks from the trailer - but trailers are not feature length and I'm letting my dislike of Christian bale color my opinion.

What do you look for in an update? Darker, shinier, faster paced, moodier or a total homage to the original?

It's as if the Earth Alliance and the Narn Regime combined their efforts to create one mega-powerful warship! Not only that, there's also that shaky-camera-zoom-in effect which they also did on B5. Now I'm not saying the new Galactica is a B5 rip-off. It's just that I've noticed certain similarities between the two shows.

Tonight's episode of CSI (Vegas) was a send-up of Star Trek, focusing on a convention of fans for a classic sci-fi show called "Astro Quest", filled with the usual geeks in costumes, etc.

There is also a nice little nod to the new BSG. The premise was that a maverick producer wanted to do a re-imagining of the show in a much darker and grittier way, which angered fans of the classic series.

Sound familiar? :-D

After this producer aired his footage to fans, he was greeted by angry responses from the audience. Grace Park and Ron Moore were in the audience, and Moore shouts, "you suck!" LOL

Later, said producer ends up murdered, and the suspicion is that an angry fan killed him, so that he couldn't desecrate the classic version of the show.

Kate Vernon (Eleen Tigh) also has a role as a media studies professor.

Here's what I mentioned in another thread:

"Anyway, in my own world of BSG lore that combined the original series with this one (damn how I love hearing that old theme), I've always felt that when the colony finally came to Earth, an explantion of the ancient Pyramids, Greek Mythology, Stonehenge and all those damn mysteries of "how did those came to be" would have been hinted on. I would have loved to have seen them hide their technology on Mars rather than destroying it, and then build even larger pyramids as hangers for them. And then carve a huge face on one of the mountains "looking" at Earth to remind future generations of where they came from (hence and explanation of the face on Mars). I know, that sounds cheesy and maybe too "comic booky". But hey, they did the whole thing with the robots in the end, so why not!"

SPOILER WARNING: If you've not seen the series finale, read no further.

Well, I have to admit that I'm disappointed. The much-vaunted finale to this explosive, dramatic series left me with a bad taste in my mouth. After so many light-years, so many battles, and so much anticipation over the fusion of the human and Cylon races I had hoped to see a true joint civilization created. Instead, RDM opted to maroon everyone in a Stone Age culture, and pretend that everybody was happy about it.

Bull! Nobody would go along with that, even today. The quality of life in a pre-agrarian society is nightmarish: diseases run rampant, superstitions replace hard science, infant mortality rates are sky-high, living at the mercy of the elements, and getting enough to eat means constant peril. Nobody would be that naive!

Then there's the fact that the fleet had the makings of an advanced society at their disposal. The Forge Ship could have landed and produced quality tools (including steel plows). The raptors could have traversed the planet and brought back quality grains and seedlings for orchards and grain fields in little time at all. Even the crippled Galactica could have been stripped of its plates and girders for the first buildings until local supplies of iron and copper had been located. With proper planning and phased development they could have reinvented a spacefaring society inside of 2-3 generations.

I'm sorry, but the whole "Let's go back to nature and start over," is a crock! This ending was even less satisfying than the Sopranos.

The circles intersect at key points and some repeat and some go on to form other circles. The other circles have new experiences but some go into a 'master circle' that has the experience from a all previous circles formed. This master circle can create other circles that end up combining with previous circles but it's core energy continues on it's own path - and that path has not even begun to form any repetativeness.

The Greek philosopher Plotinus suggested this formation, if only in a novice way. Circles within circles, with a master circle forming on the outside that generates circles but never deviates from it's formation. The cylons, with memory storage, continue on the master circle and humans are the elements of the offshoot circles.........yeah....let me toke a little more and i might have coordinates......

So here's how my theory goes...

We now know that the New 7 (now 8 with Daniel) mass-produced models were created by the Final 5. That makes the New8 the most recent Cylon generation, and the Final5 the previous generation. So who created the Final5's generation of Cylons?

Starbuck's generation did.

Yep, I said it. Starbuck is actually a Cylon, but NOT from the same generation as the Final5 nor the New8. She's the only one (or one of a very few) left over from a previous generations of Cylons who helped create the Final5 generation. She may in fact actually be from the original Cylon generation, who created the next, who created the next, etc., until somewhere down the line the Final5 generation was created, and then the New8.

It explains Starbuck's miraculous resurrection nicely. Her generation has their own Resurrection Hub out there somewhere that has been around far longer than any of the other Cylon technology. It probably encompasses the entire galaxy by now and can reproduce her ship, clothing, etc. as well as a new body.

Remember, all of this has happened before...

Poor Chief...when will you ever learn. I was hoping that I was wrong. I can only imagine how Athena must feel after seeing Boomer and Helo going at it. When did Boomer become such a manipulative little bitch? Was she always this way? Is Athena the only exception to the 8 rule?

General consensus in another Battlestar Chat is that the Piano Man is Daniel and is also Kara's father. My thinking, while watching it, was that Kara's father was Anders (just a lot older or perhaps in a different body somehow?) and/or that Kara is Daniel.

So...Hera still looks as if she is the Shape of Things to Come. Everyone is still fighting over her, and the president apparently still has that psychic link with her. I wonder if Six was effected like Rosilyn was.
Interesting that Anders seemed to come back "online" after baby Liam died... I wonder if when one of the five dies, they can be reborn, literally... it was noted last week that as Anders' brain activity all but stopped, 6's baby seemed to "come alive." Then when the baby died, Anders wakes up. Hmmmm...

The integration of Cylon and human has begun, despite opposition on both sides.
Baltar and co. seem to be setting up to stop a revolution.

I'm VERY CONFUSED about how a whole race of Earth Humans can actually BE Cylons, and how 5 of them could die in a global catastrophe and be resurrected but not the other 6.5 BILLION. And how the whole concept of Cylons bearing Cylon children can be n issue when there was a whole PLANET to prove it can be done (and done so easily it's done accidentally quite a lot).

Is it possible that Kara Thrace is the first pure Cylon offspring, i.e., the daughter of Saul and Ellen?

Consider: Kara has always had a contentious relationship with the Executive Officer: pushing his buttons, challenging his leadership, daring him to throw the first punch. I thought at first this was just a facet of her rebellious nature, but I find myself wondering if this isn't just a dodge to hid the truth, that of a contentious father-daughter relationship.

For his part, Saul Tigh has always treated Kara with a gruff respect, tinged with acrimony. She knows too many of his secrets (though, of course, not all of them), just like many a child does about their parents. Though he despises her standoffishness, he knows her to be one of his best officers, and certainly the top fighter pilot. During her recuperation he tried to be kind to her, only to have her spit on his kindness, chastise his attempts at reverse-psychology, and finally realized that she would accept nothing but the unvarnished truth. This was the lesson that her sergeant mother bred into her; or was it the encoding passed down from Ellen Tigh?

Starbuck does bear a slight resemblance Ellen Tigh, and is possessed of her sharp insight. Like Ellen, Kara knows how to manipulate people, when to press and when cajole. Her chief fault is that she presses issues too much, and tends to self-destruct when amorous intentions become too intense. Natural inability, or was this something which she inherited from Saul Tigh?

If Starbuck is indeed the first proof of Cylon ability to reproduce (Saul and Six's daughter being the second) then this alone would be reason enough to spirit her away for fosterage among the humans. If other Cylons such as Cavil found out, they would stop at nothing to dissect the child and find out what combination of factors led to the fetus being carried to full term! Hence, Kara grows up under the strict regimen of a professional soldier, one who was undoubtedly chosen for safety, and the assurance of a proper military upbringing. Kara will undoubtedly call her birth-parents to task for such a choice, but what's done is done.

Also, unless I was hallucinating, there was a brief instance during the New Caprica detention when the camera focused on Ellen Tigh, and the camera blurred, and then refocues, and the picture was that of Starbuck. Bad footage, or a deliberate hint?

Thus, Kara's place in the "Last Supper" photo is true after all: she is not a Cylon per se, in that she was not engineered. She is the first true "human" Cylon.

It also explains her broken Viper on Earth. Yes, she died, but was reborn thanks to the gracious intercession of her mother!

Is it possible that the destruction of Earth is somehow tied to the classic Battlestar Galactica series? Could Earth have been destroyed 2,000 years ago when the 1980 Galactica crew discovered it and a final Cylon war ensued thereafter? When the damaged head of a classic Cylon toaster was discovered by the landing party I began to wonder. Maybe Richard Hatch's Vice President character has some link to the classic series? Maybe the remains of the crashed Viper was piloted by Dirk Benedict's Starbuck and somehow Kara is connected to him? That's why to the Final Five events appear to be repeating themselves.

From a TV business stand point I don't this is possible. Contractual issues and creative differences with the classic creators lead me to think otherwise.

With this latest episode "Blood on the Scales", and the recent passing of George Carlin, it has become more and more evident the arbitrary nature of TV censorship. At the top of the list of the 7 words you can't say on television is a quick four letter word which becomes a negative expletive ONLY as an angry outburst. Otherwise, it's just another word for reproduction. Yet they would bleep it out under any usage.
So, my question,, how many times and under what conditions can the word "Frak" be used?
It would seem infinite after this episode..
Has anyone done a count to compare between episodes? No doubt, this last one had to tip the scales.
Just seems ridiculous that the censors would bleep out every time the real F word is used, and BSG only slightly changes the word, and yet is used in an obvious parallel with as much conviction and force as the actor can muster.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad for the inconsistency since I appreciate the allowance of the analog in making the show that much more realistic.

The 6's played the biggest role in the initial attack on the colonies and have yet to show any kind of real remorse for what was accomplished. Now she, her christ child and the other rebel cylon are totally protected while many humans have been tossed out the airlock for collaboration, died for the cause, etc... If I was in the fleet (oh how I have dreamed) I would have had to side against the human/cylon alliance and would have been totally against the upgrades to the jump drive. I think the voice of reason through the whole thing is Lee and I hope that he can talk some sense into his father once this thing plays out (if he is still alive). Apollo you are my hero (even though Jamie Bamber doesnt seem as cool in real life)

So the question is... Who would you been able to stand behind during a coup de ta as such? Gaeda sucks ass and is a fairly weak individual as it is and I would rather have seen someone else take over CIC... There is absolutely no way he could sustain power....Too bad Helo is married to a frackin cylon.. At least he has some fracking leadership potential... Sorry to say it, but Adama and the Roslin administration have stepped too far over the line far too frequently! Too bad Cpt. Kendra Shaw is gone...she was soo cute with her accent and would have been MUCH more convincing than Gaeda as the leader of a revolution....
I think not. Besides in bitter angsty guilty conscience and the willingness to lead a bunch of scared angry mutineers there's not a lot of meat to his command. He could even get offed by one of his own 'loyal' marines if they manage to pull this off. There's not much backing him up as a respected leader. A battlestar is a big ship with lots of people. There will be plenty of post-mutiny chaos. Somebody will challenge him. Plus I think Zarek's crafty ass will be yanking his chain around in no time.

Granted, the similarities are thin but I think the general attitudes towards women in power, degrees of experience, and background bear some resemblances between the real world and the BSG world. Much more so than Hillary Clinton and Laura Roslin. The biggest similarity is the suddenness with which both were thrust into the center of power. And although Palin is at the bottom of the ticket, should McCain be elected and should anything happen to him we will get to see how she handles the #1 post.
In the mean time will be interesting to see how Palin fills out her new role as aspiring vice president. Will she step up to the plate like Roslin?

SPOILER ALERT?? Did BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Actor Aaron Douglas Give Away Too Much To KUFO Radio Nerds??
I am – Hercules!!

Aaron Douglas, who plays Cylon Galen Tyrol on “Battlestar Galactica,” may have forgotten what was revealed at the end of 4.10 (the series’ mid-season finale, which hit SciFi June 13) and what was shot for 4.11, which hits SciFi in January.
Earth is the Cylon homeworld, Douglas tells KUFO-FM radio personalities Cort and Fatboy.

Excerpt:

Q. Tell me this. Do we ever get to see the Cylon homeworld?

AARON DOUGLAS: You did at the end of the middle of season four.

Q. (pause) Wow! Really? You’re saying Earth is the Cylon homeworld?

AD: Earth, in the scriptures, is the Cylon homeworld. Yeah, they say they found evidence, they found other people, and they’re all Cylon. Or they found bones and stuff, scattered all around, and they’re Cylon.

Q. Wow!

AD: Did you not listen to that – did you not watch that?

Q. That was not made clear! Yeah, I missed that! Yeah! I saw everybody standing around …

AD: Watch the last 10 minutes. They say, when they’re digging in the, all that kind of stuff.

Q. The last thing they showed was everybody looking pissed because everything looks destroyed. I didn’t get that they were pissed because everything was Cylon. Everything was destroyed because there was like a Cylon civil war that caused them to go forth and …

AD: Tune in and watch.

Other tidbits:

* “The Plan” is now apparently the title of the “Razor”-like 2009 Cylon-centric prequel TV-movie, directed by Edward James Olmos from a teleplay by Jane Espenson (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”). Douglas says it starts 15 days prior to Cylon War II and continues “up to somewhere in season three or four.”

* Douglas reacts to the ending: “I gotta tell ya, if you liked season two better than season one and season three better than season two and on and on and on, you will love the back 10 of season four and you will love how the show ends. When the show ends, you will not want it to continue. It is the most perfect ending in the history of TV. I fully, firmly believe it, and I do not want to see any more. I want it to just be over. I want the last time you see all these characters to be the last time. It’s just absolutely breathtaking and it’s perfect.”

* Does this mean Galen Tyrol survives to the end? “The last time you see the chief, whenever that is, is perfect.”

* Before the landing the role of Tyrol, Douglas auditioned for Lee Adama and Gaeta.

* Douglas learned in Beverly Hills that “Battlestar Galactica” is Robin Williams’ favorite TV show.

The entire interview is over at Cort and Fat Boy:

G*ddam good a**ed episode.

My feeling about this season (and the entire series in fact) is that in the end it will be meant to be absorbed like a well written novel. Not every page will be on fire, but the pages that are on fire are smoking because everything makes sense. To me the set up for what is happening now all makes sense. For my part it was necessary to spend a few episodes on character development so that the choices that lead up to whatever dramatic ending this story has make sense. I know for some it was tedious, but whatever. If we had just hopped from final five revelation to some other exciting plot twist and on to another the show would be as flat as every other sci-fi show out there (including Star Trek... though I hold some reservations on that critique for Deep Space Nine). What makes this show head and shoulders above everything else in and out of its genre is the way the charecter development DRIVES the action and the plot. That is the way it is supposed to be.

Because of the slow episodes we know all of the nuances driving Tigh's actions. And although we have four revealed cylons we can distinguish between them and understand their motivations. We know now that everyone seems to be in a very important position to influence what happens next. Sam and Gaeta, Tory, Roslin and Baltar, Tigh and Tryol, Tyrol and Athena, Tyrol and Hera, Tyrol and Baltar, Tigh and Adama, Tigh and Six, Tigh and Athena (murderer of a Six)... there are so many that I could go on at length but the point is any and/or all of these dynamics could be major factors. There is so much to consider while watching each episode because we know so much about each character and that at times makes the show unbearably tense, to me, makes each episode excruciatingly good.

I suspect once the entire series is out on DVD and there is time to absorb it as a complete narrative at whatever pace suits you, much like a novel it will flow and every piece will be as satisfying as it should be. There will always be those who will complain that the pace is too slow and those are the folks that are probably apt to jump ahead a few chapters or to the end of the book when reading a novel.

I know some folks just won't agree with me, but whatever. There has been plenty of bashing of the writers, I mays as well stand up and speak my peace.

Okay, so they've found Earth, and it's a dud. The only thing left unresolved is the Fifth Unknown Cylon, who has to be behind everything we've seen thus far. Ruling out the 'Who', we can at least infer a few 'What''s.

1. The Fifth apparently has access to sophisticated technology, at the very least an entire shipyard or manufacturing process--Starbuck's Viper looks newly-minted.

2. The Fifth is capable of either wiping Starbuck's memories or of placing her in some kind of stasis, since she remembers next to nothing about her journey beyond a few vague recollections.

3. The Fifth is Machiavellian, as (s)he has been manipulating events and determining the course of the Exodus, probably from the very beginning.

4. The Fifth is unaffected by the Cylon Civil War, implying (s)he has little or nothing to lose.

5. If (s)he has nothing to lose, then it is logical to assume that the Fifth has a redoubt or headquarters located far away from the battlefields, and is unafraid of that base being discovered.

6. If the above is true, then either the entire base is either Cloaked (impractical--power consumption would be too great) or the location is known only to the Fifth, and is probably well-protected.

7. If the base is well-protected, the Fifth must have several divisions of Centurions and many squadrons of Raiders to protect the base. Also, such protectors would be "unmodified", and incapable of higher thought--drones to the Fifth's will.

8. It is reasonable to assume that the Fifth knew about the attack on the Twelve Colonies, as all Cylons knew about it, save those few "sleepers" sent in to infiltrate. The fact that the Fifth did nothing to stop said attack is proof of the Fifth's "inhumane" attitude toward human life.

9. If the Fifth was behind the whirlpool which brought Starbuck to Earth (as seems likely) then the Fifth could arrange a similar transport-effect as (s)he sees fit.

10. The Fifth is capable of generating sensory images visible to only one person, for the express purpose of manipulating that person's actions. Such a tool has proven to be extraordinarily useful in population control. This also implies long-term research and experimentation into psychology, sensory input, and behavioral manipulation.

11. Given the long period of the Exodus, the Fifth has well-developed patience.

12. The fifth has access to large amounts of raw materials, particularly fuel and ammunition. (S)He has been able to track both the fleet and their Cylon pursuers across hundreds of parsecs.

13. Given the time spent on the pursuit, the Fifth must have a vested interest in both the fleet and the Cylons which has not yet been discovered. Such an interest supersedes all common necessities (food, clothing, shelter).

14. If the Fifth went to Earth before the fleet or the Cylons it is possible that (s)he was there before the nuclear devestation. If that is the case, samples of Earth (people, technology, information) may have been salvaged and put into storage by the Fifth for future use.

15. If the Fifth has been at the back of everything that has thus far happened, then the Fifth regards both humans and Cylons as mere pawns to be used and discarded as needed. As such, (s)he will not appear until such time as (s)he desires, and will be well-armed and prepared for all eventualities.

16. To accomplish everything, the Fifth would undoubtedly need more than one human (or, skinjob) lifetime, and as such is not affected by age, such as Saul Tigh. It is also likely that the Fifth would not take the risk of either accidental death or discovery, and has therefore built a private Resurrection Hub!

Despite finding Earth, the fleet has yet to face its greatest challenge.

Redemption for their treatment of the Twelve Colonies? For New Caprica? For all the battles, all the tortures, all the death? Is redemption possible? And if so, how?

I can only postulate one way: The Cylons must repair, replace, and rebuild all that they have despoiled. They must put themselves at the disposal of the humans, and follow their every command. "By your command"!

In effect, the Cylons would have to return to the servitude which they were originally created for! To win redemption and escape from their sins, they would have to go back to the beginning.

This hypothesis is not as far-fetched as it sounds. Consider that the Cylons--in attempting to understand their creators--took it upon themselves to study both science and religion. They saw themselves as the next step in evolution, and married that to the idea that the child always seeks to better the parent.

In terms of technology Cylons have appeared to out do their creators, but in religion, and emotions, and philosophy they made mistake after mistake. Not surprising, really. To quote Bladerunner, "We began to recognize in them a strange obsession. After all, they are emotionally inexperienced, with only a few years in which to store up the experiences which you and I take for granted." Moreover, the Cylons had no parent-figure to guide them. They were literally feral children, fending for themselves. Small wonder they turned to religion in an attempt to point the way. That works for some people, of course. Religion acts a salve; each time you burn yourself the words make the pain go away. For a while. But if the wound festers, after a while no salve in the world will help--and the person in pain starts thinking about fire! Burn away the infection of the soul and grow stronger. Sadly, what usually happens is that all the love is consumed in the process, and all that is left is self-righteousness and a desire to punish!

Which brings us back to the Cylons. They've almost gone back to the beginning: no resurrection ships, only a handful of them left, and the promised land has proved to be a barren heath almost devoid of life. They've practically moved back in with their parents, and the Older Sister who seemed to have all the answers has proved to be almost as clueless as the rest of them. So, what now?

Either they will open the Sacred Scrolls, or go for a class of Sunday School with Father Baltar, and the subject will turn to Redemption. What can be done to clear the slate?

I'm reminded of the Mr. Wizard cartoons, where the protagonist looks up and says, "Aw Mr. Wizard, I made a mess of things again!"

"Be just what you is," says Mr. Wizard, shaking his finger pedantically, "not what you is not. Folks that do this are the happiest lot."

The Cylons were created to be servants. They must return to servitude to earn their redemption.

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong here. The first BSG 4.0 episodes were written and filmed before the writers strike on Nov. 5 2007, then after a four month hiatus they resumed filming.

I would also assume that during that four month period (whether or not they actually acknowledge it) they had considerable time to rehash and nail down the final plot lines and episodes.

my question is this: Do you think that we will see a significant shift in episode direction and writing after this break? And will it be for the better?

The dog! Finally, after all this time the fifth cyclon has been revealed! I feel relieved because I originally thought it was the cat but then I found out it's an imaginary pussy so....like many of us who have those...I was relieved when the final cyclon barked...Now that the secret has been discovered what can we expect from this harbinger of cylonic history?...Well, first, we know that the tribe will not end up in
Egypt...cats have the upper paw there...(by the way, what does 'the tribe' eat anyway?..is that why there are no animals seen???)...after the singing espisode I thought 'the tribe' would end up being the lost tribe of israel but no..it was just one of those weird singing moments we all know and love (probably a left over from the Miami Vice years).....Anyway, we all know how manipulative dogs are and how they can get their way with little of no verbal interaction (must be a relief for the writers). And like Noah's ark..they carry many life forms with them....yes, it's the dog.
